How can we avoid microplastics?

1. We can apply the 3R.

What are the 3R?  3Rs refers to three terms often used when talking about waste: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

-
Reducing is cutting back on the amount of trash we make.

-Reusing is finding a new way to use trash so that we don't have to throw it out.

-Recycling is using trash to remake new goods that can be sold again.

2. We can avoid buying products packaged in single use plastic.

3. We can ask governments to ban single use plastics.

4. We can find bigger pieces of plastics and remove them before they become microplastics.

5. We can tax companies that produce plastics, encourage the use of other materials.

How can we clean the oceans?

The microplastic contamination is one of the most difficult problems to solve because the small size makes it difficult to find and measure them.

There are already projects to filter the ocean’s water and retain them, but there are still a lot of microplastics to clean.

Other companies are developing systems based on the use of sunlight or fungi to destroy the microplastics.
